My New Skin, or: Clash for Fantasy
When I got home, I saw it right away, the gigantic brown envelope stuck to my mailbox. It’s here, it’s here!! My designskin for the ol’ Mac Daddy, and it looks gorgeous! All red and black and yellow and orange and REALLY not at all complementary to my couch cover, which is red and yellow and orange, and um, pink. It’s not a sight for sore eyes, it’s a sight that’ll give you sore eyes. And that’s why you’ll get the picture later, after I move Senor Mac to a more photo-friendly locale…
First Timers
I’d like to extend a hearty welcome to the nice reader from Unterhaching who’s coming to me live on Chrome. You’re the first! Feels like there ought to be a prize of some kind…
I can’t believe people come here by googling “i was mugged in barcelona by gipsies”! First of all, that’s not how you spell gypsies. And secondly, I certainly wasn’t mugged in Barcelona by gypsies, I was mugged in Barcelona by Spaniards. Which ultimately is still not the only reason I don’t want to go back there: unlike my partying friends, I was bored there. Yup, there are some who find B. boring. First time for everything…
And finally, today marks the first day this season that I’ve had my floor heat on. Feels grrrreeeeeat!
Little Obsessions
It is funny, but even weeks after that particular blog post, people still come here looking for “fly swatter”! I feel so significant.
Zohan is still high on the list, too. People, he doesn’t live here. Really.
In other news, the sniffles are back. My colleagues are being felled left and right. I am grateful to be blessed with a strong constitution, because I don’t want it. I do want that massage this week, though. Only two more days…
Look up and you see…
Your annual performance review that rates you so highly that you just KNOW that you’re freakin’ underpaid by a couple of grand! But, hey, being there is what counts, right?
Hard Drive Space: the Final Frontier
I’m pretty content with my very own MacBook, which I affectionately call the Mac Daddy, except for one thing: the hard drive is a joke. Considering Apple’s reputation for great graphics rendering and exceptional recreational viewing pleasures, it pains me greatly that only four season of television programming should be able to pretty much cease all processing on the thing. Normally, I would burn all that crap onto DVDs, but I don’t like clutter, either. So, today I purchased an external hard drive. At 160 GB, it has easily twice the storage space the laptop has, is very much smaller and was very much cheaper, as well: $89.90 at AAFES.
Certainly, not everyone has the benefit to shop there, but sometimes, little things really do add up. And the hardware wasn’t the only thing AAFES does cheaper than Apple: I purchased two seasons of “Sex and the City” from iTunes at $23 each and just recently found out that I can save three bucks on future purchases by going to my military supplier of choice (or not, but that’s another topic).
Back to my crammed hard drive, though. I’m planning on pulling off all videos and all photos to store on the external drive. While I’m at it, I should probably back up my iTunes library, as well. And then there’s those CDs I’m supposed to have burned a long time ago, another little weekend project I’m actually looking forward to. Afterwards, the Mac Daddy should feel much relieved of stuff. And I can go back to getting some work done for a change.
Alright, yeah!
At the risk of more trackback spam, I’d like to announce that I’ve finally received some usable, and indeed, very nice-looking, business cards! Interestingly, the ones I got for free (you know, those that have that pesky “get free business cards from us” print on the backside) are my favorites, so I’ll have to suck it up and hand ‘em out anyway.
From now on, there’ll be no reason to be caught empty-handed!
